Rio in the Polder

Almere – June 14th organize CAH, Center for Human Emergence and foundation de Veldleeuwerik Rio in the Polder. A symposium in line with the major United Nations sustainability summit in Rio de Janeiro. But where in Brazil the solution is sought from above and in politics, Rio in the Polder goes for the solution from below in practice. There is still a limited number of places available for participants.

At the end of June, the United Nations Sustainability Summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Rio+20. During Rio+20, governments will examine what 20 years of sustainable development has brought and what the questions are. This summit follows in the footsteps of the 'mother of all environmental conferences' that took place in 1992 in the Brazilian capital. According to Jan Jorrit Hasselaar, researcher in the field of sustainable transitions at the CAH, Rio+20 will turn out to be a disappointment. “Real breakthroughs come from below, like plants that germinate slowly. They do not come from governments and politicians. There is no blueprint.”

Rio in the Polder on Thursday 14 June will therefore also be different. The conversation from below. More and more companies are switching to sustainability strategies. In the chain, however, this does not always result in better sustainability performance. One and one is not always two. Different strategies can bite each other. The next step in sustainable entrepreneurship is therefore how parties in the chain jointly achieve better sustainability performance. Rio in de Polder will be an inspiring afternoon about this next step in sustainability. We do this on location, near Almere, where practice and theory come together.

We cordially invite you to participate in the discussion at local level. It is an interactive and stimulating afternoon with conversation and excursion. On the basis of introductions from various companies with different sustainability strategies, we will discuss a sustainable chain together. What is needed for better sustainability performance? We also go on an excursion to the arable land where the farmers show how they concretely shape the greening of the company and we consider the questions that this entails.

The symposium is a discussion between companies in the chain, knowledge institutions and local authorities. There is still a limited number of places available.
