Fortunately, there has been more attention paid to this issue within CHE in recent years. This year, we would like to join you in reflecting on this day of remembrance.<\/p>\n<p>This gathering is important not only for people whose ancestors were enslaved, but also for that segment of the Dutch population that does not feel particularly connected to the history of slavery. It was barely mentioned in our history classes. We aren\u2019t very used to discussing this past, and we\u2019re still searching for the right words to use.<\/p>\n<p>Feeling uncomfortable is a natural part of any conversation about perpetration and abuse of power, as are the defense mechanisms that quickly kick in when we feel called out on these issues. Consciously reflecting on those mechanisms and consciously experiencing them can help us listen to the painful stories of the past and present and engage in these conversations.<\/p>\n<p>You are cordially invited to join us for this online session, during which we will practice Heartfulness and Mindfulness in relation to the history of slavery.
