Russian Imperialism and lasting peace in Europe. In this fourth salon our guest is Dorzho Dugarov , a human rights activist and public figure from the Republic of Buryatia, living in Finland since 2016 as a political refugee. While there is still support in the West for Ukraine, there are also loud voices calling for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, thinking this will lead to peace. The last three salons made clear that negotiating with Putin is not a realistic option. So, what might be other ways to sustainable peace in Europe?

Dorzho Dugarov will tell us about another approach: the creation of the Free Nations League as a guarantor of a peaceful transition to post-Russian reality. Introducing the problems of Russian imperialism, he will explain why ethnic regions (national minorities) want to gain independence and why it is a threat to stability and peace (in Europe) if the Russian Federation is preserved in its current imperialistic form. The Free Nations League can be a new union of states that will guarantee agreements between national regions on the prevention of interethnic and territorial contradictions. New independent states will work as an antidote to a new large-scale war, a guarantee for Ukraine and for Europe. Dorzho will also discuss the Issues of the export of natural resources, the right of national regions to manage their own resources, and fair trade with Europe and the rest of the World.

Dorzho Dugarov, born in 1979, is a historian specialized in Tibetan-Mongolian studies. He had been an engineer programmer of Yukos Oil. Dorzho started his political and social activities in 2005 by joining the human rights movement Erhe which advocates for the rights of national minorities in Russia. From 2006 to 2015, he led many of the protests against the anti-democratic changes in Russia which were held in Buryatia. In 2019 he was awarded the Boris Nemtsov International Scholarship for his many years of human rights activism. He revived the Buryat national movement for independence in February 2022.

The salon is online through ZOOM and takes about 2,5 hours. The language is English. It will consist of two parts. One block with Dorzho Dugarov's introduction and Q&A. In the second part, we will have a dialogue about what we can learn from his knowledge, experiences, and wisdom. For our own country, world politics, and the Ukraine war. We ask for a contribution between 5 – 25 euros for participation in the salon to raise some money for organizing these meetings.
