How do you organize inspiration? Holacracy!

“This is very interesting stuff. A lot of people would say though, that it is a recipe for anarchy – is it?” That's the first question from a CNN reporter about Holacracy. Well, anarchy… or liberation from the potential of employees and the productivity of teams? As one of the organizations that has been working with this operating system the longest, our conclusion is: liberation.

Holacracy as a yellow method

CHE Synnervate has been intensively involved with Holacracy for some time, both in its own organization and with customers. In terms of Spiral Dynamics, this is the most beautiful 'yellow' way we know of to put concrete inspiration on one in organizations.

What is Holacracy?

Holacracy is a radically different kind of operating system for teams and organizations. It is the best 'social technology' we have found so far with its own, different, principles than most of us are used to. Important differences:

Which question is Holacracy an answer to?

In 2014, making contact with your own energy and inspiration is also increasingly a factor that is taken seriously in organizations. At the same time, organizations rarely succeed in shaping decision-making, consultation and management in an inspired way. Consultations in particular cost a lot of energy: almost everyone does it a lot – and hates it. Common frustrations include: lack of clarity, ego trips, slowness, poor use of existing wisdom, poor quality decisions and mistrust. How could it be otherwise, how can you organize with inspiration?

Who is already working with Holacracy?

In the Netherlands, the CHE and CHE Synnervate are among the organizations that have been working with Holacracy the longest. There are a number of fast-growing companies and a large water board that work with it, and various organizations (companies, but also schools) are considering it. In the United States, Zappos (online shoe seller) was the first well-known, large, organization to choose Holacracy – and that made it in the US, among others, CNN and Fox News: see here.

What is the result of Holacracy?

Our experience is that Holacracy gives an enormous boost to (purple) trust, (red) decisiveness, (blue) clarity, (orange) entrepreneurship and (green) communication of an organization. So that inspiration is liberated – and can take shape in a process of alignment where necessary.
